SO I am a hair dresser, and most of these tips are great. I thought I would clear up a bunch of other things for you.

1) Developers- 10 Volume developer should NEVER( did I say Never?? I really wanted to say NEVER NEVER) to be used as developer for bleach. It will eat some pigment of the hair but it is so weak that is a DEPOSIT ONLY( meaning: used to deposit color on top of the color you have now). 20 Volume Developer is the BEST BEST BEST Volume to use on your hair whilst you are bleaching it. Is it the SLOWEST?? Yes. It is better because the longer you sit the more pigment(your hair color) it will eat and the BEST results. You have more control and THUS less damage for your hair. You can leave it on your hair for an hour and not have the issues you would normally have with higher developers. 30 Volume is a quicker life and takes less time, however you don't have control and it will STOP working with in a limited amount of time. Use this when you have LIGHT BROWN HAIR to DARK BLONDE hair. 40 volume after 30 mins is useless pretty much. You get a faster pigment( AGAIN THE COLOR IN YOUR HAIR) coming out fast, but you have to get it in your hair fast, and after 30 mins, you might as well rinse your hair and start over. You have more damage and really its not worth the headache.
2)I was going to write more...but if you are really wanting to know more go SoVeryFabulous.com and it will answer your questions about bleaching, color removing, and getting the blonde you want.

I've bleached my hair plenty of times.
I change my hair all the time.

But I've never done a lot of dying at once or any thing of that sort.
I mean, I've done some pretty brutal look shit to my hair, but it was something really easy to do.

I have really dark brown hair right now,
You seem like you know a lot more about this than I do, but I was wondering what color would my hair turn if I left it in there for about five minutes.
Would it turn a lighter brown, or just go orange?

Thanks.

Would it be easy to "undo" or take out home made dreadlocks? I had a friend who went to a saloon to get hers put in and ended up cutting her hair off after 5 hours of trying to get them out. Needless to say it was not pretty.

This worked really well. I've been doing hair for a while, but I cut my first mohawk last week. Just from using this post. Awesome stuff.
