Whoo!
OK, this is the new version of the Mohawk FAQ.
Here’s how it works:
- You send a question
- One of our highly qualified (and bored) staff will make every effort we can to answer it in the best possible way.
How do you choose staff?
Well, staff are hand-picked by me, Ruadhán J McElroy, for their knowlege of punk hair techniques. I know a lot about hair stuff based on expierence, and since different people have not only different expierences, but different hair-types, that’s why I have other people putting in their input. If you want to help out, just write me a short essay which explains why you think you’re qualified and we’ll go from there. To help you cheat, I’m looking for three main things: Knowlege, Expierence and Attitude. (Hint - you need all three, not just two of the three.) Even if you’re not chosen to be a Punk Hair FAQ staff, I plan on accepting and publishing contributions here — just keep in mind, that both contributions and staff writing is a labour-of-love thing; you’re not getting paid, I’m not getting paid, if you ask me about getting paid for “all your hard work” I’ll either ignore your helpful advice, re-write it in my own words or remove you from the staff or all of the above. Only poseurs bitch about how they should get paid for writing in a FREE info-blog that the person who started it is almost definately losing money on.
So, wait, why are you doing this site rather than sticking with the LiveJournal-community?
The “mohawked_people” LJ-comm is great and I love that it’s so active and I take many opportunities to brag that I started what is now the oldest LJ-community dedicated to Mohawk haircuts and punk hair, but this looks better, and it’s easier to organise a more comprehensive info-site this way. The LJ-community is here to stay, but it should really be considered a companion to this site.
That and I decided that there should really be some kind of database that expanded beyond ‘hawk variants and hair-colours. Like, take me for example: I’ve had a Mowak, I’ve had a “half-hawk” (one side only buzzed), I’ve had a Princeton (the male version of a “Chelsea” or “feather cut” — just the bangs, no side-dingys), and I’m in the process of growing out my hair for dreads (cos that stupid Gothic dread-fall shite is TACKY!). I’ve seen other punk and undreground/non-mainstream types run through the gamut of punk ‘do’s, and like a bunch of people my age, I’ve had my hair in nearly every colour I thought seemed like a good idea at the time (which, in my case, was purple, pink, RED!, black, blue-black, blue, white and my natural auburn). I also had to figure out a lot of this on my own, totally trial-and-error, without any help from anybody. I just figure I’d save some curious people some grief and put this info up here so that those who can check it out are free to check it out.
Well, your site is still stupid….
Then start a better one, dumbass! Nobody’s stopping you! (Jeez, there’s absolutely NO pleasing some of you dumb-shits….)

you guys should make some tutorials on how to cut bihawks/trihawks. it’s basically the same principle as shaving in yer mohawk, but some people just have no clue.
